The United States is preparing to seize Iranian-linked vessels in international waters far beyond the Middle East, according to a report. American military forces are readying for potential boardings of oil tankers and the capture of commercial ships connected to Iran in the coming days.

This move marks a significant expansion of Washington's naval operations, taking them outside their traditional regional theater. The strategy is reportedly aimed at intensifying economic pressure on Tehran.

The goal is to compel Iranian authorities to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for navigation and make concessions regarding their nuclear program. The strategic waterway is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments.

On April 17, Tehran announced it would open the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels until the end of a ceasefire declared on April 8. This decision coincided with a reported truce agreement in Lebanon.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump refused to lift the blockade of Iranian ports until a comprehensive peace deal is signed. He claimed Tehran had promised not to close the strait again and had accepted all terms for a future agreement, including halting its nuclear activities.

These assertions were denied by Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, a representative of the Iranian parliament. He accused the U.S. President of waging a media war and manipulating public opinion.

The situation shifted again on Saturday, April 18, when Iran declared it was returning the Strait of Hormuz to its "strict control," effectively reversing its earlier decision to open it for shipping.
