President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in a panel session at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, where he delivered a speech on global governance and international challenges.
During his address, Tokayev called for a responsible and pragmatic approach to reforming the United Nations. He identified the positions of the permanent members of the UN Security Council as one of the root causes of the organization's current crisis.
"In my opinion, we must be as pragmatic as possible when we talk about the need to reform the UN. Otherwise, we will endlessly discuss crossroads, strategic values, and other issues. We hold numerous global and regional meetings and conferences," stated Tokayev.
The President emphasized the significant and positive role played by so-called middle powers in global affairs. He specifically named Kazakhstan and Turkey as examples of such nations.
"I do not intend to boast that we are the best in the world. But we demonstrate a high level of responsibility regarding global processes—both in practice and in diplomacy. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that today middle powers often show greater responsibility than major powers represented on the Security Council, which unfortunately often block solutions to key global problems," he underscored.
Furthermore, during his participation at the forum, President Tokayev shared his vision regarding the main trends and challenges facing the world community in 2026 and shaping the international agenda for the near future.
