The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan has prepared a draft order to extend the temporary ban on the export of key petroleum products. The restrictions, which have been in place since 2021, are set to be prolonged for another period.

According to the proposed measures, a ban on the export of petroleum products by road transport will be extended from May 21, 2026, to November 21, 2026. This prohibition applies even to shipments destined for fellow member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Simultaneously, existing restrictions on the export of light distillates by rail will remain in force. A separate, additional ban is also planned for a wider range of products.

From July 1 to December 31, 2026, an extra prohibition will cover exports outside the EAEU customs territory. This list includes light distillates, aviation kerosene, diesel fuel, gas oils, toluene, xylene, and petroleum bitumen.

The ministry stated that these measures are aimed at ensuring Kazakhstan's energy security and maintaining stability in the domestic market for petroleum products. The country first introduced restrictions on fuel exports in May 2021 and has been extending them regularly since then.
