Russia is developing cooperation with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in the nuclear energy sector based on principles of equality and mutual respect, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry. This approach was contrasted with the actions of Western nations.

The comments were made by Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her statement came in response to recent remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron, who advocated for reducing dependence on Russian uranium and listed Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Canada, and Australia as alternative suppliers.

Zakharova accused Western countries of seeking to secure access to Central Asian markets and natural resources, often employing non-market methods in an attempt to weaken Russia's cooperation with states in the region.

She emphasized that Russia builds its interaction on the foundation of international law and bilateral agreements, taking into account the interests of all participants. This principle, she stated, underpins cooperation with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in developing modern nuclear energy and implementing projects for the construction of nuclear power plants.

In contrast to Russia's stated approach of partnership, Zakharova claimed that Western countries operate from a position of dominance. She reiterated that Russia's focus remains on equality and mutual consideration of interests when implementing joint energy projects.
