Uzbekistan and Italy Sign Agreement to Modernize Agricultural Insurance System

During the Italy – Central Asia (C5) + Azerbaijan business forum in Tashkent, Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, held a meeting with representatives from the Italian Agricultural Payments Agency (AGEA). The delegation included leaders from the Agricultural Insurance Fund and the Agency for Payments in the Agricultural Sector.

The parties engaged in detailed discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation, introducing modern management practices into the agricultural sector, and strengthening institutional frameworks.

Following the negotiations, a memorandum of understanding was signed. This agreement marks a new phase in collaboration and establishes a foundation for improving systems related to agricultural insurance and subsidies. The document outlines plans to study and apply advanced international experience, implement modern management approaches, digitalize processes, and develop platforms for managing agricultural payments.

The cooperation will involve an analysis of existing mechanisms for agricultural insurance and subsidization. Based on this review, a contemporary institutional model will be developed, incorporating European—specifically Italian—best practices.

To ensure concrete progress on each workstream, international experts will participate in regular online consultations twice a month.

Both sides emphasized that this partnership is systematic in nature and aims at the sustainable development of Uzbekistan's agricultural sector through the application of advanced technologies and standards.
