The Turkish Ministry of Defense has reported the successful interception of a ballistic missile launched from Iran over its territory. According to an official statement, the projectile was tracked as it traversed the airspace of Iraq and Syria before heading toward Turkey.

"The ballistic munition, launched from Iranian territory and passing through Iraqi and Syrian airspace toward Turkey, was detected in a timely manner and successfully intercepted by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean," the ministry's statement read.

Debris from an interceptor missile used to destroy the ballistic projectile fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay province. The ministry confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident.

This event occurs amid heightened regional tensions. On February 28, the United States and Israel initiated a large-scale military operation against Iran. Israeli officials stated the goal of strikes was to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. U.S. President Donald Trump declared an intent to destroy Iran's navy and defense industry while calling for citizens to overthrow the regime.

In response, Iran has reportedly targeted Israeli territory and American bases in the Middle East. Media reports indicate missiles have struck both military targets and civilian infrastructure within Iran and across the region.

On March 1, Iran announced the death of its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal suggested a potential American ground operation in Iran following closed-door briefings with administration officials.
