Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy has issued a stark warning, declaring that President Donald Trump has lost control of the military conflict with Iran. In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Democratic senator argued that the administration gravely miscalculated Tehran's capacity to retaliate, plunging the region into chaos.

Murphy stated that Trump was mistaken in believing Iran would not close the Strait of Hormuz. With the vital waterway now shut, oil prices are soaring. "If the strait remains closed, it will lead to a global recession," Murphy wrote. "Gasoline prices spiked first, but food prices will follow. At the moment, Trump has no plan to reopen the strait. And such a plan may not even exist."

The senator outlined a significant military challenge: Iran's use of thousands of small drones, speedboats, and mines to attack tankers makes them nearly impossible to eliminate. These assets are too numerous, too dispersed, and too well-hidden for effective countermeasures.

"First, it would require our entire fleet," Murphy explained. "One hundred tankers need escort daily. Second, if we cannot destroy the mines and drones, our own ships will be in danger." He emphasized that while the U.S. Can destroy Iranian missiles, countering their drone arsenal is unachievable—a critical flaw in modern warfare where drones dominate.

Murphy pointed to a recent attack on a major oil depot in Oman as evidence of Iran's sustained capability to strike regional energy infrastructure "indefinitely." He criticized Trump for failing to learn from the changing nature of warfare observed in Ukraine.

A further complication is that Gulf states are running out of interceptors capable of stopping Iranian rockets and drones, leaving other oil facilities increasingly vulnerable.

The senator warned that a broader regional war is igniting across the Middle East, with Iranian proxies in Lebanon striking Israel and allies in Iraq targeting U.S. Assets. He questioned Trump's strategic endgame: "What comes next? A ground invasion? That would be Armageddon—thousands of dead Americans. Declare a false victory? Then new Iranian hawks in power will simply rebuild what we destroyed."

Murphy concluded that these predictable consequences are why previous U.S. Presidents avoided starting such a war. "Trump has lost control," he stated. "The best way out for him now is to cut losses and end it. That is the only way to prevent an even greater catastrophe."

These criticisms come just days after President Trump claimed total victory over Iran, asserting its defeat in military, economic, and all other spheres while calling on nations like China and France to help unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
