Tokayev Briefed on Preparations for Upcoming Constitutional Referendum

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received a briefing on the progress of preparations for the upcoming nationwide referendum. The meeting was held with Nurlan Abdirov, Chairman of the Central Referendum Commission.
The Head of State was informed about the current stage of organizational work for the national vote. President Tokayemphasized the critical importance of ensuring transparency, strict adherence to the law, and creating equal conditions for all citizens during the referendum process.
The final decision on constitutional reform will be made by the citizens of Kazakhstan in a republican referendum scheduled for March 15, 2026. Voters will be asked to approve a new draft Constitution with the following question: "Do you accept the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the draft of which was published in mass media on February 12, 2026?"
Voting will take place from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM at 9,799 polling stations based on citizens' registration addresses. An additional 632 stations will be organized in military units, rest homes, sanatoriums, inpatient medical facilities, pre-trial detention centers, and at Kazakhstan's diplomatic missions abroad.
For the referendum to be considered valid, more than half of eligible voters must participate. The decision on the proposed question will be adopted if it is supported by more than half of those who cast their ballots.
