President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has identified a lack of trust between major powers as the root cause of the current global instability. He made these remarks while addressing the III Republican Forum of Deputies of Maslikhats at all levels in Astana.

Tokayev described the world situation as extremely complex, with geopolitical tensions and trade wars reaching new heights. "It is obvious that this is the result of a deficit of trust between leading powers and their unwillingness to adhere to the principles of international responsibility," he stated.

The President acknowledged that this challenging environment directly impacts Kazakhstan's opportunities. However, he emphasized that the nation continues to overcome difficulties, maintain steady economic growth, and confidently implement its national strategy.

Highlighting Kazakhstan's economic resilience, Tokayev provided key indicators. The country's GDP reached $306 billion last year, making it the second-largest economy in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the largest in its region. In 2026, Kazakhstan entered the list of the world's 50 largest economies.

"According to forecasts from authoritative international organizations and financial institutions, our country's GDP will reach $320 billion by the end of this year," Tokayev added.

He further noted that Kazakhstan continues to be a regional leader in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). The total volume of FDI attracted by Kazakhstan has exceeded $150 billion, accounting for 69% of all FDI in Central Asia. The nation's gold and foreign exchange reserves stand at $74 billion, with total reserves reaching $139 billion.

The President concluded by stressing that the national economy is growing stably and, crucially, this growth is qualitative in nature. He characterized the global situation as one where "each year is more difficult than the previous one."
