President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has declared that adopting a new Constitution is an urgent and vital task for Kazakhstan, framing it as a necessary step demanded by the current era. He stated that the proposed foundational law will establish the institutional and legal groundwork for sustainable national development.

Tokayev acknowledged that the current Constitution, adopted when Kazakhstan was first asserting its independence, served as the cornerstone for the nation's achievements. He credited First President Nursultan Nazarbayev for this foundation, which was crucial for preserving sovereignty and ensuring stability during the country's formative years.

The President emphasized that Kazakhstan is now a strong state with high international standing, a stable political system, and a steadily growing economy—a fact recognized by foreign observers. He argued that the nation can no longer afford a Basic Law containing provisions that could undermine domestic legislation, stating this is fundamentally a matter of independence and national sovereignty.

According to Tokayev, the new constitutional project demonstrates that Kazakhstan is a state with a solid foundation, pursuing a clear strategic course focused on the future. He highlighted that every norm in it will serve national interests and reflect core principles such as Justice, Patriotism, Law and Order.

The President also noted that the Constitution strengthens national unity and inter-ethnic harmony, describing this as a political and spiritual asset society must protect. He positioned the upcoming nationwide referendum as a critical historical milestone where citizens will make a choice determining the country's destiny.

Tokayev concluded by promising to elaborate further on the significance and content of the new Constitution in the near future.
