US Sets 48-Hour Deadline for Iran's Nuclear Deal Proposal

American negotiators are prepared to hold another round of talks with Iran in Geneva on February 27, but only if they receive a detailed Iranian proposal for a nuclear deal within the next 48 hours.
According to U.S. Officials, the current diplomatic push likely represents the final chance President Trump will give Iran before authorizing a major U.S.-Israeli military operation. Such an operation could be directed against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
An official spokesperson confirmed that the Trump administration and Iran could also discuss the possibility of an interim agreement before reaching a deal on a full-scale nuclear program.
During the last round of talks in Geneva this past Tuesday, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner asked Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to present a detailed written proposal from Iran within days. They conveyed Trump's position demanding "zero enrichment" of uranium on Iranian soil. However, they also noted the U.S. Is willing to consider an Iranian proposal that includes "symbolic enrichment," provided Iran can prove such a plan blocks all pathways to developing nuclear weapons.
In an interview with MS Now on Friday, Araghchi stated he would complete drafting the proposal over the weekend and submit it to Witkoff and Kushner after receiving approval from Tehran's political leadership.
Trump's advisors say the president could change course and order a strike at any moment, though many members of his team are currently advising patience. This diplomatic window follows a previous 15-day ultimatum issued by Washington. On February 20, President Trump stated he was giving Iran "10 to 15 days" to reach an agreement on its nuclear program, warning that if Tehran did not heed his call, "something bad will happen." His statement came amid heightened tensions and as a second U.S. Aircraft carrier moved closer to the Middle East.
