Individuals suspected of orchestrating a major robbery at a Halyk Bank branch in Kazakhstan have been taken into custody in Russia. The crime involved perpetrators breaking through a wall to access the bank's vault and making off with cash and valuables.

According to materials from a Russian court, the stolen amount is estimated at approximately 400 million rubles, equivalent to about 2.6 billion tenge at current exchange rates. The accused face charges of theft committed by an organized group on an especially large scale. The investigation indicates that the crime caused financial damage to 23 citizens of Kazakhstan.

However, the defense for one of the detained individuals is challenging the accusations. Attorney Anastasia Terekhova stated that her client and other Russian nationals implicated in the case are not involved in the robbery. She argues that the charges are based solely on their presence in the city of Pavlodar on the day of the incident, with no other concrete evidence linking them to the crime.

"My client, his acquaintance, and two other Russian citizens are accused only on the grounds that they were in Pavlodar that day. There are no other proofs; even a connection between these two pairs of Russian citizens has not been established," Terekhova asserted.

She explained that her client and his companion were in Pavlodar with the intention of inspecting vehicles for potential purchase and subsequent resale in Russia, unrelated to any bank heist.

The suspects were detained in January of this year following a joint operation conducted by law enforcement agencies from Pavlodar and Russia.
