Kazakhstan's Fuel Exports Surge in 2025, Gasoline Sales Jump 5.7-Fold

Kazakhstan recorded a dramatic increase in gasoline exports during 2025, reaching a volume of 214.8 thousand tons valued at $139.4 million. This figure represents a staggering 5.7-fold growth compared to the previous year.

The primary destinations for Kazakh gasoline were neighboring Central Asian nations. Uzbekistan was the largest buyer, importing 119.6 thousand tons, which is a 5.5-fold increase from its purchases in 2024. Kyrgyzstan imported 57.5 thousand tons, marking a resumption of supplies after receiving none the year before.

Exports to Afghanistan saw an extraordinary surge of over forty-three times, reaching 21.5 thousand tons, while shipments to Tajikistan grew more than fourteenfold to 16.1 thousand tons.

In contrast to the booming gasoline trade, exports of diesel fuel remained stable at approximately the same level as in 2024, totaling around 60.3 thousand tons.

The import picture for petroleum products was reversed. Diesel fuel imports into Kazakhstan skyrocketed by a factor of 5.4, reaching 377 thousand tons, with Russia being the source for nearly all of it.

Conversely, Kazakhstan's purchases of foreign gasoline plummeted by more than fifteen times to just 1.3 thousand tons in 2025 compared to the previous year's figures.

On the domestic market, consumers faced significant price increases by January of this year (2026). The average price for AI-92 gasoline rose by over sixteen percent to reach approximately two hundred and thirty-six tenge per liter.

The cost of higher-octane AI-95/96 fuel also increased by sixteen percent to about three hundred and four tenge per liter on average nationwide.

Prices for winter-grade diesel fuel showed a more moderate but still notable rise of seven-point-four percent compared with earlier levels reported last year; it now averages around six hundred eight tenge per liter across most regions within country borders where such data is available publicly through official channels like government statistics agencies or industry reports published regularly
