Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy has announced a historic milestone for the nation's gas sector. At an expanded board meeting, officials revealed that gas production in 2025 reached a record 68.2 billion cubic meters, surpassing the planned target by 8.6%.

Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenshenov presented key performance indicators and strategic plans for the industry's development through the end of the decade. A significant step in strengthening the resource base was the commissioning of the Barkhannaya field in the Zhambyl region, which holds reserves of 1.5 billion cubic meters.

The country's gas transportation infrastructure also saw major expansion. The Taldykorgan-Usharal main gas pipeline was completed ahead of schedule in 2025. Furthermore, a comprehensive plan for the sector's development through 2029 has been approved, outlining a clear roadmap for future growth.

The national gasification level has now reached 64.2%, providing access to this vital resource for approximately 13.1 million people. To continue this progress, 27.6 billion tenge has been allocated for gas infrastructure development in 2026, funding 40 projects.

A key priority among these projects is completing the first stage of the second line of the strategic Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent gas pipeline.

Significant focus is being placed on expanding gas processing capacity. A major milestone is planned for December 2026 with the launch of a Gas Processing Plant (GPP) at Kashagan with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters per year.

In parallel, state expert review is expected for a new GPP in Zhanaozen with a capacity of 0.9 billion cubic meters, and a feasibility study will be developed for another Kashagan-based GPP with an impressive capacity of 2.5 billion cubic meters annually.

The implementation of these initiatives is designed to maintain high production rates and ensure a stable supply of resources for both industry and the population in the coming years.
