Qatar Warns of Catastrophic Consequences from Regional War with Iran

Majed Al-Ansari, the official spokesperson for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has issued a stark warning that the Middle East is already in a state of regional war, one that risks "catastrophic consequences." He made these remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday, March 10th.

Al-Ansari stated that Qatar has been consistently warning the international community since 2023 about the global repercussions of escalating conflict with Iran. He described the current situation as unprecedented in scale.

The diplomat asserted that Iran must cease its attacks before any diplomatic negotiations for a settlement can begin. He accused Tehran of striking civilian infrastructure both within and beyond the Persian Gulf, actions he said threaten not only the region but will "have consequences worldwide."

"As a result of these attacks, we will witness a humanitarian catastrophe," Al-Ansari declared. He added a firm warning: "Any attack on Qatar will be dealt with appropriately."

Qatar had hoped that following an apology from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to neighboring countries, Tehran would halt its strikes. However, the attacks have continued. The Qatari spokesperson declined to comment on the appointment of Iran's new Supreme Leader.

"We are busy protecting our country from Iranian missiles, and we have no time for political subtleties," he emphasized.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its targets are solely US interests in Gulf nations, warning that any support for the US in the region would be considered a hostile act justifying Iranian strikes.

In response, Qatar's Foreign Ministry affirmed that its "strategic partnership not only with the US but with all defense partners in the world is not up for debate."

Al-Ansari underscored this point: "I think it is perfectly clear now that as our Patriot systems protect the country together with our American friends and allies, as well as other European and foreign partners, these security partnerships are the primary means of protection and deterrence against any attacks on our country."
