Qatar and Oman Mediate Ceasefire Talks Between Iran and US-Israel Coalition
@TengriNews
Diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict involving Iran have reportedly begun, with Gulf states Qatar and Oman taking a leading role as mediators. According to sources cited by Western media, officials from both nations initiated contact with Tehran this week to discuss the possibility of halting hostilities.
The mediation push follows an assessment by Qatari and Omani officials that the significant military force assembled by the United States and Israel is unlikely to achieve its stated objective of overthrowing the Iranian government in the near term. This realization has prompted a shift towards exploring diplomatic solutions.
Iran has reportedly set clear conditions for its participation in any talks. Tehran insists it will only engage if Washington and Tel Aviv are the first to cease their attacks. Furthermore, Iranian authorities have indicated a willingness to meet on the condition that they receive compensation and firm guarantees that combat operations will not resume.
The conflict, which began on February 28, has seen continuous exchanges of strikes between the involved parties. Israel has publicly stated its primary goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The United States, meanwhile, has threatened to destroy Iran's military capabilities and has called on Iranian citizens to overthrow their government.
These new mediation efforts come amid separate reports that American authorities have also begun internal discussions about a potential settlement. Earlier communications suggested Egypt and Qatar had informed US officials of Iran's readiness for contact, laying some groundwork for the current Gulf state initiative.
