Iran's Assembly of Experts has reached a decisive consensus on selecting the country's next Supreme Leader, according to a member of the influential clerical body. Mohammad-Mehdi Mirbagheri stated that the assembly has successfully formed a consolidated position reflecting the majority view.

"The members of the Assembly of Experts have made efforts in recent days to determine the Supreme Leader and have not failed. Fortunately, a decisive and consolidated position has been formed that reflects the opinion of the majority," Mirbagheri was quoted as saying.

The announcement comes amid ongoing speculation about the succession following the death of the previous leader. Reports had previously indicated that Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56-year-old son of the slain Supreme Leader, had emerged as a leading contender to succeed his father, though no official statement had confirmed this.

The internal Iranian process unfolds against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions. In late February, the United States and Israel initiated an operation against Iran, with Tel Aviv stating its goal was to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Washington threatened to destroy Iran's navy and defense industry and called for citizens to overthrow the regime.

Media reports suggest missile strikes have targeted not only military sites but also civilian infrastructure in Iran and other regional countries. Tehran has responded by attacking Israeli territory and American bases in the Middle East.

Separately, former U.S. President Donald Trump stated he advocates for a complete change in Iran's leadership, claiming Washington has several potential candidates for a "good leader," though he refused to name any specifically.
