Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has addressed the recent incident involving a ballistic missile launched from Iran towards Turkish airspace. The president stated that during these challenging times for the region, Turkey will never leave the security of its borders and airspace "to chance."
Erdogan emphasized that Ankara is taking all necessary measures in close coordination with its NATO allies and will respond immediately if required. He confirmed that Turkey issued a "maximum-level serious warning" to prevent any repetition of such events.
"Turkey's determination and capability to ensure the security of the country and its people are at the highest level," Erdogan asserted. He added that all necessary steps to protect Turkish territory and airspace would be taken without hesitation, with any hostile actions met with a response within the framework of international law.
The statement follows reports from the Turkish Ministry of Defense indicating that a ballistic missile launched from Iran towards Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense forces deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
After debris from the missile fell on Turkish soil, Ankara signaled its readiness for countermeasures. Burhanettin Duran, head of communications for the Turkish presidency, reiterated that Turkey's resolve and capacity to safeguard national security remain paramount.
