An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of Iranian origin crashed and detonated on the territory of an airport in Azerbaijan's autonomous exclave of Nakhchivan. The incident triggered a fire at the airfield, with footage from the scene circulating on social media.
The drone reportedly exploded in the vicinity of the airport in the city of Nakhchivan. The region is situated approximately 30 kilometers from the border with Iran.
Azerbaijani media have indicated that an official statement regarding "Iran's attack on Azerbaijan's civilian infrastructure" is expected shortly. This event occurs against a backdrop of heightened military tensions between Baku and Tehran.
Recent reports suggest Azerbaijan has deployed additional troops to its border with Iran and placed certain army units on heightened combat readiness. The drone incident further escalates regional friction.
The crash follows recent statements by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who addressed neighboring nations' leaders amid attacks from the United States and Israel, asserting that Tehran had no choice but to defend itself.
