Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Kyiv's very readiness to engage in dialogue with Moscow is already a significant concession, and that Ukraine is prepared to discuss peace based on the current front line.

In an interview with Japan's Kyodo News, Zelenskyy framed Ukraine's position as a major compromise.

"We stand where we stand — that is a big compromise. They have seized almost 20 percent of our territory. And we are ready to talk about peace now on the basis of this principle,"
he said.

The Ukrainian leader drew a sharp distinction between genuine negotiations and ultimatums. He expressed willingness for compromises that respect the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity but rejected any demands he likened to terrorism.

Zelenskyy noted a lack of progress on territorial issues during recent three-party talks in Geneva involving the United States. The sides agreed to hold a new round of dialogue within the next ten days, likely again in Switzerland.

The Ukrainian side hopes the next stage of negotiations, expected in February, can yield results. The President confirmed his delegation's priorities are set and answers to difficult questions are prepared for the upcoming meeting.
