Nazarbayev Voices Support for Tokayev and Constitutional Reform

Kazakhstan's First President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has publicly expressed his views on the ongoing political reforms in the country. He stated that his decision to voluntarily step down from the presidency seven years ago was guided by the interests of ensuring the nation's sustainable development and a smooth transition of power.
"Time does not stand still. Generations change," Nazarbayev remarked. "Each generation must contribute to strengthening Kazakhstan's independence. I believe my generation fulfilled its task by declaring independence, defining borders, and building the capital. Now it is necessary to continue strengthening Kazakhstan and raising its authority. Much is being done for this, including today's referendum, which I support."
He also reaffirmed his enduring confidence in President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: "In my time, I made a choice in favor of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and remain with this choice forever. I wish for this Constitution to work for the benefit of our Kazakhstan, for the benefit of our people."
Earlier on Sunday, Nazarbayev cast his vote in the national referendum on adopting a new Constitution at a polling station located at the Astana Opera theater.
