Four Found Dead in Gas Leak Tragedy in Shymkent Apartment Building

A tragic incident in Shymkent has claimed the lives of four people found in three separate apartments within the same building entrance. Preliminary information points to a mass gas poisoning as the cause.

The event occurred in the Student City microdistrict. According to neighbors, the body of a 31-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were discovered in one apartment. In another apartment on the second floor, a 23-year-old man was found deceased. A 20-year-old female student was also found dead in a rented apartment on the third floor; the landlady reportedly discovered her body inside the bathroom.

Local residents stated they had previously complained about a smell of gas in the building. Official comments from gas service representatives are not yet available. Police have initiated a criminal case regarding the provision of services that resulted in death.

"The first girl was found around noon," recounted one witness, Islam Faizullayev. "The landlady came and saw that the bathroom door was locked. She opened it and found her tenant had died while bathing. After that, they called the local police officer, started evacuating everyone outside, and rescuers arrived. They began breaking down other doors and found more bodies."
