Uzbekistan Tightens Parole Rules for Corruption Convicts

@UZDaily
The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis has approved a bill introducing stricter conditions for the parole of individuals convicted of corruption-related crimes. The legislation now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
The proposed amendments to the Criminal Code establish that convicts found guilty of embezzlement, misappropriation, or fraud will be ineligible for early release unless they have fully compensated for the material damage caused by their crimes.
These new restrictions will also apply to those convicted of bribery—both giving and receiving—as well as acting as intermediaries in bribery schemes. The rules will be enforced in cases involving repeat offenses, particularly large-scale damages, or instances of dangerous recidivism.
Furthermore, the bill seeks to strengthen criminal liability for crimes involving embezzlement, misappropriation, and fraud when they are committed through the abuse of official position or authority.
