Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev visited Seoul on April 9-10 to participate in the inaugural Senior Officials' Meeting of the Central Asia–Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum.

The primary focus of the meeting was reviewing preparations for the upcoming first-ever summit between the leaders of Central Asian nations and South Korea, scheduled for later this year. Participants also exchanged views on current issues in regional cooperation.

In his address, Bakayev emphasized that the forthcoming summit is designed to provide a new strategic impetus to multifaceted interaction between the region and South Korea. He highlighted its significance as a key platform for advancing joint initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable development, stability, and prosperity in Central Asia.

During his stay, Bakayev held a series of bilateral meetings with senior South Korean officials. He met with First Vice Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won and paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul. Both sides noted the traditionally friendly and trusting nature of Kazakh-Korean relations and confirmed mutual interest in further strengthening bilateral ties.

Separate negotiations were conducted with Minister of Trade Inkyo Cheong and First Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Young-tak. These discussions centered on trade and investment cooperation, developing transport and logistics links, and advancing the Alatau City project.

Additionally, Bakayev held meetings with representatives from major South Korean business associations and corporations, including KITA (Korea International Trade Association), KOIMA (Korea Importers Association), CONTEC Space Group, and YPP. The talks explored prospects for expanding economic and investment partnerships.
