Serbia Detains Two Suspects in Alleged Plot to Assassinate President Vucic
@TengriNews
Two individuals have been detained in Serbia on suspicion of plotting a violent overthrow of the government, with authorities alleging they planned to assassinate President Aleksandar Vucic and members of his family.
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrests of two men, born in 1975 and 1983, in the city of Kraljevo. According to investigators, from December 2025 through February 2026, the suspects conspired to forcibly change Serbia's constitutional order and overthrow its highest state bodies.
The criminal investigation indicates that the suspects discussed acquiring weapons. Authorities further allege they plotted attacks targeting the Serbian president, his wife, and his children with the intent to kill them. The probe is also examining a potential plan for assaults on employees of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The detained men will be held for up to 48 hours before being transferred to the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo.
This is not the first time such threats against President Vucic have been reported. In February 2021, Serbian police stated that a criminal group had prepared an assassination attempt on Vucic during the unveiling ceremony for a monument to Stefan Nemanja. That plot was allegedly orchestrated by a gang led by crime boss Veljko Belivuk, whose members were later arrested. President Vucic himself has publicly expressed doubts about whether he was genuinely the target of that earlier alleged plot.
