China Urges US to Drop Unilateral Tariffs Following Supreme Court Ruling
@TengriNews
China has called on the United States to abolish its unilateral tariff measures against trading partners. The statement was issued by China's Ministry of Commerce on Monday in response to a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision.
The ministry emphasized that facts have proven cooperation benefits both nations, while confrontation harms them equally. It also noted that Washington appears to be preparing alternative measures, including trade investigations, in an attempt to maintain the additional duties imposed on its partners.
"China will closely monitor this situation and resolutely defend its interests," the ministry added.
The call comes after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last Friday, February 20, that the sweeping global tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump in April 2025 were unlawful. The court found, by a majority vote, that Trump exceeded his authority by using a federal law intended for national-scale emergencies to implement his worldwide "reciprocal" tariffs.
Trump denounced the Supreme Court's decision as a "disgrace" and stated he had a backup plan. Later that same day, he signed an executive order imposing an additional 10 percent tariff "on all countries," which he subsequently increased to 15 percent.
