President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced the creation of a new consultative body, the Halyq Kenesi (People's Council), which will be granted the right of legislative initiative. The announcement was made during his address to the public in the Turkestan region.

The Halyq Kenesi will serve as a platform for discussing the most pressing socio-political issues. A key function of this new structure will be to draft and submit bills for consideration by the Kurultai, the national assembly, thereby exercising its right to initiate legislation.

"I have high hopes for the Halyq Kenesi, which will be established as a new consultative body," stated President Tokayev. "This structure will discuss the most relevant issues of socio-political life and also submit bills for consideration by the Kurultai."

The President's working trip to Turkestan region began on Saturday, March 21. His visit included a stop at one of the sacred sites of the Turkic world—the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi—before his public address.
