A devastating explosion that destroyed a private house in Taldykorgan on New Year's Eve 2024, killing three family members, was caused by a gas leak from a pipe that had been sealed with ordinary duct tape. The tragedy claimed the lives of a married couple and their minor son, while four other relatives sustained severe burns and injuries.

The investigation revealed that the source of the blast was a leak from natural gas pipes running near the two-story home. Responsibility for the safety of these pipelines lay with two regional gas companies. The owner of one of these companies has been charged and is currently in custody.

The criminal case is being heard in the Taldykorgan City Court. The 51-year-old company director faces charges under Article 306 of the Criminal Code for "performing work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons."

In a parallel development, police have opened another criminal case specifically concerning damage to the gas pipeline. Investigators are working to determine who damaged the pipe and why someone attempted to patch the leak with tape.

"I very much hope for justice. Those guilty must bear deserved responsibility," said Yernur Zhuken, the surviving eldest son who lost his parents and brother. The investigation lasted nearly a year, hampered initially by difficulties in finding qualified experts to assess the condition of the networks.

Yernur Zhuken has taken guardianship of his younger siblings and now faces both legal and everyday challenges. The ruined house still stands on the city's outskirts. He has decided to demolish it completely and build a new home. "The house cannot be restored in its previous state. The damage is too serious," he stated, expressing his wish for a new building with spacious, bright rooms free from the smell of smoke.

The court proceedings have already seen 22 hearings over several months, with a change in presiding judge. The case is now before Judge Almas Bekbosynov. According to lawyer Erik Zhaksybekov, representing the victims' side, upcoming sessions will involve questioning witnesses from both parties. "It is a high-profile case that requires thorough examination," he noted, adding that it is unclear how long the trial will continue.
