Law enforcement officers in Almaty have detained a Kazakhstani citizen in possession of eight kilograms of the synthetic drug methamphetamine.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, which pertains to large-scale illicit drug trafficking.
With court approval, the suspect has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure while the investigation proceeds.
This arrest follows recent reports from early February indicating that nearly 20 kilograms of narcotics were seized across Kazakhstan within a ten-day period.
Authorities also report that since the beginning of 2026, a total of 325 kilograms of drugs have been removed from illegal circulation nationwide, with synthetic substances accounting for approximately half of this amount.
