Almaty Man with HIV Accused of Raping 13-Year-Old Girl

A shocking case has emerged in Almaty where a man diagnosed with HIV stands accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. The crime came to light under particularly distressing circumstances, as the victim's mother, who is currently serving a prison sentence for drunk driving, was not informed about the assault for six months.
The parents of the child are divorced. According to the family's lawyer, no state body notified the incarcerated mother about the investigation or the subsequent court proceedings. She only learned of the horrific incident half a year after it occurred.
During this period, the lawyer alleges that significant psychological pressure was exerted on the young girl by her father, other relatives, and even the suspect's own attorney. This pressure reportedly led her to retract her initial testimony in court.
"They convinced her. They made her believe it was her fault. She completely changed her testimony in court," stated lawyer Lyazzat Rakisheva. She emphasized that both mother and daughter currently lack proper psychological and legal support.
The Almaty police department confirmed that a criminal case was investigated by the Almalinsky District Police Department. Authorities stated that the suspect was apprehended promptly "while the trail was still hot" and placed in a temporary detention facility.
"All necessary investigative actions were carried out objectively and comprehensively. The progress of the investigation was under special control of the police department leadership," a police representative said. The pre-trial investigation concluded in December, and court hearings are now underway.
