The United Nations has formally commended Uzbekistan for submitting an updated national climate action plan. The country's National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change received a letter of appreciation from Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The recognition is for Uzbekistan's third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), which was officially presented at the COP30 climate conference in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025. This document outlines the country's enhanced commitments under the Paris Agreement.

The core pledge within the plan is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 50% by 2035, using 2010 as a baseline. This target reflects a significant increase in Uzbekistan's climate ambitions.

In his letter, Stiell highlighted that the updated contribution demonstrates a comprehensive approach across economic sectors and is oriented toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2055. He also noted that it incorporates outcomes from global climate assessments.

The UNFCCC Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Secretariat's readiness to continue providing full support to Uzbekistan in meeting its stated goals. For its part, the National Committee confirmed its commitment to active cooperation with international partners to implement policies for sustainable development, emissions reduction, and building national resilience to climate change.
