An Uzbek state-owned company has commenced a two-year exclusive geological exploration program in Afghanistan, targeting hydrocarbons, iron, and copper deposits across three designated blocks.

The Uzbek Overseas Geology Company is now conducting surveys on the Muhammad-Jandagar, Shamal, and Ahmadabad blocks. The work marks the initial phase of a strategic mineral exploration initiative.

The project follows an intergovernmental agreement signed between Uzbekistan's Ministry of Mining and Geology and Afghanistan's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The pact grants Uzbekistan priority rights for future extraction activities upon the establishment of a dedicated operating company.

Under the terms of the deal, Afghanistan has guaranteed exclusive exploration rights and necessary permits for a two-year period. The agreement also includes provisions for extending cooperation beyond this initial timeframe.
