On April 8, a significant meeting took place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris between Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO and the Foundation for the Development of Art and Culture, and Khaled Al-Anani, Director-General of UNESCO.

The high-level talks culminated in the signing of two key documents: a Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNESCO, and a detailed Roadmap outlining joint activities for 2026–2027.

The newly signed agreement is designed to translate into practical action the initiatives proposed by the President of Uzbekistan during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference. That landmark session was held in Samarkand in November 2025.

The documents establish a clear framework for future collaboration across several vital sectors. The partnership will focus on advancing shared goals in education, science, culture, communication, and information.

This formalized cooperation is expected to significantly strengthen the long-term strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United Nations' specialized agency for culture and education.
