On March 2, a high-level video conference was held between Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Indonesia's Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso. The talks focused on enhancing trade, economic, and investment ties between the two nations.
The ministers highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and noted a significant surge in mutual trade in 2025. According to the meeting's participants, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Indonesia grew by an impressive 82%, marking a substantial strengthening of economic links.
The negotiations yielded concrete agreements on several fronts. The parties agreed to expand exports of Uzbek agricultural products to Indonesia. They also committed to streamlining quarantine and phytosanitary procedures and establishing cooperation for the mutual recognition of halal certificates. A key focus was placed on developing practical mechanisms to implement these initiatives.
As a result of the meeting, the two countries signed a formal Agreement on Cooperation in Trade and Investment. Furthermore, the ministers issued a Joint Statement announcing the official launch of negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Uzbekistan and Indonesia.
The participants expressed confidence that these new agreements will elevate bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level. They are expected to create additional opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership and provide a strong impetus for the long-term development of economic relations.
