NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that Ukraine will require effective security guarantees once hostilities finally cease. He emphasized that for peace to endure, robust measures must be in place.

"When the fighting finally stops, peace must be preserved," Rutte stressed. He argued that achieving this goal necessitates a strong Ukrainian military bolstered by concrete security assurances from Europe, Canada, and the United States.

Rutte also praised the resilience of the Ukrainian people, describing Ukraine as "a nation of quiet heroes." He underscored the critical need for Kyiv to continue receiving the military, financial, and humanitarian aid required to hold defensive lines and protect against what he termed "Russian air terror."

The statement comes on a grim anniversary, marking four years since Russia's full-scale invasion began—a conflict initially predicted to last mere days. Instead, it has evolved into Europe's bloodiest confrontation since World War II.

When Russian tanks first crossed into Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the global order shifted irrevocably. Few anticipated the scale and duration of what was once considered a localized conflict. Expectations of a swift resolution gave way to a protracted stalemate. The world braced for nuclear escalation and adapted to a new reality where drones became commonplace tools of war and economic sanctions were wielded as strategic weapons alongside missiles.
