Trump Claims US Negotiating with Iran, Received 'Major Gift'

US President Donald Trump has stated that his country is currently engaged in talks with what he called "the right people" in Iran. According to Trump, these individuals are eager to strike a deal with Washington.
"We are talking to the right people, and they want to make a deal so badly. You have no idea how badly they want to make a deal. And we'll see what happens," Trump told reporters at the White House.
He confirmed that negotiations are actively underway, involving figures such as JD Vance, Marco Rubio, and Steve Witkoff. While not specifying his Iranian counterparts, Trump suggested a "new group of leaders" has emerged in Iran, describing it as effectively a change of regime.
"I think we're coming to the end. I can't tell you exactly. We won this war," the President declared, adding that Washington would now observe how the situation develops.
In a notable claim, Trump revealed that Iran had presented the United States with a significant gift. "Yesterday they did something truly amazing. They gave us a gift, and today it arrived. It was a very big gift, costing an enormous sum of money," he said.
He chose not to disclose the gift's nature but described it as a "very significant prize" related to oil and gas and concerning the Strait of Hormuz, explicitly stating it was not connected to nuclear energy. He characterized the gesture as showing goodwill from "the right people."

However, official statements from both nations have been contradictory. Following Trump's remarks, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth offered a starkly different perspective, stating simply: "We negotiate with bombs."
Earlier reports indicated that during a phone call between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Tehran conveyed that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had approved swiftly ending the conflict provided Washington meets Iranian demands.
Simultaneously, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei asserted that Tehran has not been negotiating directly with Washington but has received messages through intermediaries expressing a desire to resolve the conflict via dialogue.
