Trump Halts Strikes on Iran for Two Weeks Following Pakistan's Appeal

US President Donald Trump has announced a two-week suspension of military action against Iran. The decision came after a direct appeal from Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump outlined the terms of the pause. "Based on negotiations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who asked me to refrain from applying destructive force planned for tonight against Iran, and provided that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the full, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombings and attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks," he wrote.
The president framed this as a bilateral ceasefire. He explained that the rationale stems from significant diplomatic progress. "The reason for this decision is that we have already achieved and surpassed all military objectives and have made significant progress in concluding a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East," Trump stated.
According to his announcement, Washington has received a ten-point proposal from Tehran, which it views as a "workable basis for negotiations." Trump noted that agreement has been reached on nearly all key points of previous disagreements between the US and Iran.
"However, the two-week period will allow us to complete and finalize the agreement," he added. "On behalf of the United States, as president, and also representing Middle Eastern countries, I consider it an honor that this long-standing problem is close to resolution."
The move follows an urgent public plea from Pakistan's Prime Minister Sharif, who had called on Trump to delay any action against Iran for two weeks. Sharif also urged Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz during this period as a gesture of goodwill.
This announcement marks a dramatic shift in tone. Just hours earlier, President Trump had issued a stark threat on social media, warning ominously about "the demise of an entire civilization tonight."
