President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. Blockade of Iranian ports will be lifted immediately upon the signing of a peace agreement with Tehran. He made these remarks to journalists in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, April 17.
"We've had some very good discussions. Talks are going on. It'll go on over the weekend — and a lot of good things are happening," Trump said. "As soon as the agreement gets signed, that's when the blockade ends."
When reporters asked him to comment on media reports citing Iranian officials who claim significant disagreements between the two countries persist, Trump responded, "Well, maybe. We'll see what happens. If they are, we'll have to work it out. But I don't think there's that many substantial disagreements."
The comments were shared via the official White House Rapid Response account on social media platform X.
Earlier the same day, Iran and the United States announced that a strategic waterway—effectively closed since the start of hostilities—would be fully opened for commercial traffic during the current ceasefire period. Following these announcements, oil prices fell significantly.
Separately, France and Britain stated they would lead a multinational mission to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz "as soon as conditions allow."
