Former US President Donald Trump has publicly voiced his dissatisfaction with the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new Supreme Leader. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated simply, "I am not pleased," regarding the appointment. He declined to elaborate further but indicated he would be monitoring the situation closely, telling an Israeli outlet he would "wait and see what happens."

In stark contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin was among the first world leaders to formally congratulate Mojtaba Khamenei. A telegram published on the Kremlin's website conveyed Putin's "sincere congratulations" on the election.

"At a time when Iran is confronting armed aggression, your activity in this high position will undoubtedly require great courage and selflessness," Putin's message stated.

The Russian leader emphasized that Moscow has been and will remain a reliable partner for Tehran. He expressed confidence that the new Supreme Leader would continue his father's work and unite the Iranian people, wishing him success and fortitude.

The appointment follows the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 during the first day of a joint US-Israeli military operation. Iran subsequently declared a 40-day period of national mourning. The country's Assembly of Experts later confirmed his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor.
