President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has issued a firm condemnation of a drone attack targeting an airport in the city of Nakhchivan. The statement, released by his office, characterizes the incident as an act against fraternal and allied Azerbaijan.
In his response, President Tokayev expressed hope for a thorough joint investigation into the event with Iran. He emphasized the necessity of resolving the conflict situation through diplomatic channels to prevent any escalation of regional tensions.
The attack reportedly involved unmanned aerial vehicles that fell on the territory of the Nakhchivan airport. According to subsequent statements from Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, the strike caused damage to airport infrastructure and resulted in injuries to several civilians.
Iranian authorities have denied launching drones toward Azerbaijan. Officials in Tehran have suggested that similar actions have previously been undertaken by Israel with the aim of damaging relations between Muslim nations.
