Kazakh President Reviews Energy Sector Development Plans and Projects

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received a comprehensive report on the current state of Kazakhstan's fuel and energy complex, the progress of key projects, and plans for the sector's future development.

The report highlighted stable growth in oil production. The Head of State was also briefed on plans to increase oil refining capacity through major expansion projects. These include increasing the capacity of the Shymkent Oil Refinery from 6 to 12 million tons per year, the Atyrau Refinery from 5.5 to 6.7 million tons, and the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant from 5.5 to 9 million tons annually.

Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhanov outlined plans for commissioning new power generation capacities by 2029. This year, construction is scheduled for completion on CHP-2 in Almaty, as well as power plants based on combined-cycle gas turbine units in the Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions. Information was also presented on the development progress of the national project "Development of Coal Generation."

Following the meeting, President Tokayev issued a series of instructions for further development of the fuel and energy sector. He emphasized timely and high-quality implementation of planned projects in oil and gas, petrochemicals, and electric power industries. The President also stressed the importance of actively implementing digital solutions and artificial intelligence technologies to ensure efficient operation of production facilities.
