Kazakh President Chairs Security Council Meeting, Approves New National Priorities

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of Kazakhstan's Security Council, where officials reviewed the results of the current national security strategy and considered a draft document for the next five-year period.

The government presented a report on achieving key indicators for the 2021-2025 National Security Strategy. Heads of several relevant state bodies also provided information on major areas of work.

During the session, a draft of the National Security Strategy for 2026-2030 was examined. This new strategy is intended to become a cornerstone of the state planning system, outlining fundamental approaches to countering key challenges anticipated in the coming five-year period.

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin reported on priorities, target indicators, and mechanisms for managing strategic risks in the medium term.

President Tokayev emphasized that adopting a new Constitution marks a new stage in state development, ensuring reliable protection of Kazakhstan's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The forthcoming strategy is designed to safeguard these constitutional principles and create conditions for the country's stable and progressive advancement.

The head of state highlighted several critical areas requiring focused implementation. These include protecting national interests, ensuring defense capability, enhancing citizen safety, safeguarding the environment and information space, strengthening cybersecurity measures, and mitigating risks in the socio-economic sphere.

Tokayev also stressed the need for further detailed work on public, economic, environmental, water, and food security issues in light of the current geopolitical situation.
