@TengriNews
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sent a congratulatory letter to US President Donald Trump following the successful completion of the Artemis II mission. The mission marked humanity's first crewed return to lunar space in over half a century.
In his message, Tokayev highlighted the historic significance of the expedition, calling it a new milestone in space exploration. He praised the groundbreaking achievements of American science, which he said expand the horizons of knowledge and serve as an inspiration for new generations of scientists, engineers, and researchers worldwide.
The Kazakh leader also wished President Trump further success in implementing the Artemis program and other initiatives in the space sector.
The Artemis II mission launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, ten days ago aboard the Orion spacecraft. The crew successfully returned to Earth on April 10 at 20:07 US Eastern Time (05:07 on April 11 Kazakhstan time).
The four-person crew consisted of Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. This mission set a new record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth—406,771 kilometers. Victor Glover became the first African American and Christina Koch became the first woman to participate in a lunar mission.
This launch represents the second phase of NASA's renewed lunar program. The first phase, Artemis I, concluded in December 2022 with an uncrewed test flight of Orion around the Moon. The planned third phase, Artemis III, aims to land astronauts on the lunar surface for the first time in more than 50 years.
