President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sent a letter to his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In the message, Tokayev expressed gratitude for the warm reception during his recent working visit to Bukhara, highlighting the "exceptional hospitality and cordiality" extended to him.
The Kazakh leader emphasized that the intensive program of the visit was substantive. He assessed that the negotiations held were comparable in significance to a full-fledged official visit in terms of their long-term political outcomes.
Tokayev informed that upon returning to Astana, he gave appropriate instructions for implementing the agreements reached. He also ordered to utilize Uzbekistan's experience in various fields. In his letter, he separately underscored the importance of the joint environmental initiative "Clean Air."
The consistent implementation of outlined tasks will further strengthen the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two nations, Tokayev stated. He also thanked the Uzbek leader for providing archival materials, noting their importance for Kazakhstan's cultural and historical heritage.
This step reflects a respectful attitude towards shared history and helps strengthen ties between the peoples of both states, the President of Kazakhstan stressed.
During earlier negotiations in Bukhara, the sides focused on the need for joint work on rational water resource use and developing regional environmental projects. This includes advancing the "Clean Air" initiative in border areas.
Commenting on this initiative, Tokayev noted its relevance for major Kazakh cities as well. He pointed to Almaty's complex ecological situation, stating it ranks among the most polluted megacities. The President underlined the urgent need for measures, including increasing accountability of local authorities and businesses for environmental conditions.
