Kazakhstan's Constitution Day to be Celebrated Annually on March 15

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has officially designated March 15 as the new date for celebrating Constitution Day in Kazakhstan. The announcement was made during a meeting with representatives of youth organizations who actively participated in the nationwide referendum campaign.
Tokayev emphasized the historic significance of the referendum day and expressed his gratitude to the young people involved. "Undoubtedly, this day will forever remain in the country's chronicle. From now on, March 15 will be celebrated as Constitution Day – the main document of our state," he stated.
The President also commented on the quality of the nation's foundational law, saying, "I have familiarized myself with the constitutions of many countries and can say with confidence that our Basic Law is among the most progressive."

The constitutional referendum was held across Kazakhstan on March 15. Polling stations were open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM local time. The right to vote was granted to all Kazakh citizens over 18 years old who were included in voter lists, which contained a total of 12,461,796 individuals.
For the referendum, 10,388 polling stations operated domestically. An additional 71 stations were opened at Kazakh diplomatic missions in 54 countries worldwide. At 92 locations, primarily military units, electoral commissions began work earlier at 6:00 AM.
By 8:00 PM, preliminary data indicated that 9,126,850 people had participated in the referendum. The Central Referendum Commission recorded a preliminary turnout of approximately 73.24 percent.
Several exit polls conducted by independent research institutes showed strong support for adopting the new constitution. Results ranged from approximately 86.7 percent to 88.6 percent in favor among surveyed citizens.
The official results of the nationwide vote are scheduled to be announced no later than March 21.
