President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who arrived in the country on a working visit. The leaders discussed the strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance between the two nations.

Tokayev noted that Mishustin's participation in a Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting and a Digital Forum in Shymkent confirms the special nature of bilateral relations and mutual commitment to their development.

"Economic cooperation between our states is developing dynamically," said President Tokayev. "We have already implemented 122 major projects worth about $25 billion. Trade volume is confidently approaching $30 billion. These are unique results. Russia is our main trade, economic, and investment partner, and we are certainly pleased with this."

The main focus of the meeting was on preparations for the upcoming state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan in May.

Tokayev stated that Astana views the forthcoming visit as a very important event designed to give serious impetus to the further development of strategic partnership and allied relations.

He added that preparatory work has involved a comprehensive review of all aspects of multifaceted bilateral interaction.

Prime Minister Mishustin expressed gratitude for the traditionally warm welcome on Kazakh soil. He congratulated President Tokayev on the successful nationwide referendum and the adoption of Kazakhstan's new Constitution, stating it confirmed public support for building an effective state and improving citizens' welfare.
