President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the public of the Turkistan region on Saturday, March 21. In his speech, he emphasized the historical significance of the area.

"We must always remember that Turkistan was one of the key political centers of the Kazakh Khanate, where fateful decisions determining the nation's future were made," said Tokayev. "Three hundred years ago, a great Kurultai was held on the land of Ordabasy, which had an exceptional influence on the country's history. At that time, the best representatives of all three zhuzes united under a single banner. Thanks to this, our valiant ancestors won victory in the Battle of Anrakai and protected the people from a looming threat."

The President noted that these traditions of unity and heroism have never been interrupted. "We continue this historical path by holding important events that unite representatives of our entire people," he stated.

Tokayev announced that a high-level meeting of leaders from the Organization of Turkic States is planned for mid-May in Turkistan.

"In today's unstable global situation, this international event takes on special significance," declared Tokayev. "The government and local administration must give top priority to organizing this summit with high quality."

The President's working trip to the Turkistan region began with a visit to one of the sacred sites of the Turkic world—the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.
