Kazakhstan Reports 36 Criminal Cases for Stalking Since Law Enacted

Kazakh law enforcement agencies have initiated 36 criminal cases under the new anti-stalking legislation, with all cases already submitted to the courts. The relevant article of the Criminal Code came into force on September 16, 2025.
The head of a relevant department stated that investigative work is being carried out across all police departments in the country. He emphasized that while legislative amendments fall under the purview of Parliament, law enforcement agencies are obligated to take measures to enforce existing laws.
This development follows reports from Almaty, where one of the first sentences under this new article was recently handed down by a court.
According to the law, stalking in Kazakhstan is punishable by a fine of up to 200 Monthly Calculation Indices (MCI), mandatory community service, or arrest for up to 50 days.
The police urge citizens who face obsessive persecution, threats, or surveillance to seek help immediately.
