The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced the commencement of a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global chokepoint for oil shipments. The declaration comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic uncertainty between Washington and Tehran.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning, stating that any high-speed Iranian boats approaching the blockade zone would be destroyed. He indicated that the same system used against drug traffickers on the high seas would be employed for this purpose.

Previously, the American leader stated that U.S. Forces intend to stop all vessels attempting to use this route. He also ordered the tracking and interception of tankers that had previously made payments to Iran for passage through the strait.

According to maritime traffic monitoring data, tanker activity in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz was virtually nonexistent immediately prior to the imposition of these restrictive measures.

Following last week's entry into force of a temporary truce with Washington, Tehran reopened the shipping route but established a series of conditions. Notably, a ban on passage for tankers from countries Iran deems unfriendly remains in effect.

Over the past weekend, delegations from the United States and Iran held talks in Pakistan. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei stated that the sides failed to reach agreement on several key issues.

The consultations reportedly covered topics related to security in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's nuclear program, potential reparations, sanctions regimes, and prospects for conflict resolution. It is also reported that an Iranian ten-point plan could form the basis for any potential future agreement.
