A Russian fourth-generation multirole fighter jet made an unscheduled landing at an international airport in Kazakhstan on the morning of February 20, following a navigational emergency during a training flight.

The aircraft, piloted by Russian citizen Dmitry Nifantyev, a 36-year-old native of Bashkortostan, touched down on the runway of Hiuaz Dospanova International Airport in Atyrau. Preliminary reports indicate the pilot lost spatial orientation while flying over the Caspian Sea, forcing him to execute an emergency landing at the nearest available airfield.

The landing was performed in a standard manner and did not disrupt passenger flights or airport operations. The fighter remained on Kazakh soil only briefly.

The crew was provided with necessary medical assistance. After completing all required coordination and formal procedures, the Russian fighter jet departed Kazakh territory and returned to its base.

Competent authorities from both nations are now investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident.
